Methods Used in Transplanting Hair

Many methods have been invented and reinvented, in which one can transplant hair from one place to the other. Some of these methods are advisable, while others have proven to be hectic or cumbersome. Some of the methods leave marks or scars behind while others have effectively managed to be used without any faults. Since the conception of the hair loss treatment methods in the 70’s the very beginning saw the use of hair plugs method to transfer hair from one area to another. These were rather obvious methods that saw little accuracy in the consistency of hair density around someone’s hair. Through time, this technology ha been improved in order to accommodate the idea of smaller and smaller chunks of hair removed at a time.

The first modern method of transplant of hair came about not very long ago with the introduction of strip incisions. The method mentioned is one that includes the removal of strips of donor skin from their positions, making sure that the hair follicles are extracted along with them. After this, the skin is then implanted on the area that is conventionally termed as the recipient. It has been effectively used in the past to perform the most common hair transplants. Of late, this method has been advanced so as to get rid of the incisions that are proving to be a more dangerous procedure. Micrografting is such an advancement that will give better results, will hurt less and causes less scars or infection on the skin.

Another method that has currently been introduced is the Follicular Unit Extraction. As the word suggests, the idea in this procedure is to concentrate on one unit of follicle as the surgeon tries to work on the hair. It is actually an advancement of the micro grafting method that produces astonishing results. Local anesthetic is used to ease the pain on the individual’s head while the work is being done. The good thing with this method is that transplant is easy, no scarring takes place, no stitching is necessary, and there is a total regain of hair pattern used. This gives the patient a look that is more natural: Besides, it takes less time to complete and also to heal.

Another method used is mini grafting where multi-bladed knives are put to use in order to produce the tissue needed. It is a faster method compared to micrografting.
