What is entailed in the Transplanting of Hair?

The surgical procedure, for a hair transplant,  that is entailed in this kind of transfer of one part of the body to another is an invention that has in many ways transformed the overlook of surgery. In many respects, surgery has been used for saving lives. Procedures involving removal of foreign objects from the body, removal of tumors and realigning other areas of the human body are some of the common uses of surgery. Of late, surgery has been used in enhancing ones beauty, so much so that it has become one of the biggest booming businesses in the region. The desire for beauty has made many go for facial lifts, restoration and enhancement of lashes, eyebrows and beards.

Hair transplantation is therefore a method that will assist one to gain hair where there is none. It involves moving hair from a donor site, which is the site, or the skin part that has a potential of hair growth to the recipient site, which is the place of hair grafting. Apart from simple enhancement of beauty, the grafting of hair can also come in handy when someone wants to cover up some part of the body that has received a scar, probably through some accident.

The idea of transplanting hair from one place to the other requires some knowledge of where exactly the hair is found. Hair strands grow in groups of one to four strands, depending on the body section that is being examined. These groups are in units called follicles and is naturally occurring hair groups providing the basis for the transplant to take place. Modern technology has been able to come up with ways in which this transplant can be made as effective as possible. With such methods as Follicular unit Transplants (FUT) the specific hair amount can be located and easily transferred.

One of these methods of transfer is Strip Harvesting. Here, scalp is removed as a whole tissue from a part of the skin which contains the hair. These are then cut into small grafts which are then stitched into position as required. The method leaves a scar on the donor area, which gets back to normal in about two weeks. The other method is called FUE Harvesting. This method is one that uses tiny blades to remove follicles of hair in such a way that will not leave any marks or scars on the donor areas. These are the techniques currently being used to make transplants.
